After two years and five months due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) is ready to receive more than 400 thousand students who will start the new school year this coming Monday, August 8, 100% in person. The UNAM reported that the students will begin their activities in person at schools, institutes, faculties and centers throughout the country.
According to the general secretary of UNAM, Leonardo Lomelí Venegas, the return to campus is safe since it is thought to be certain that the students are vaccinated against the virus. COVID-19. Likewise, it has sought to work on the necessary measures so that the face-to-face return is extremely safe.
Lomelí Venegas commented that all the students are anxious to return to the facilities because there are those who get to know their schools for the first time or to his companions in a physical way. as well as more than 42 thousand teachers. And it is that, it should be remembered, that the last day of classes “officially” was March 13, 2020, since weeks later the authorities confirmed the first contagion by the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
Likewise, he clarified that measures will be respected in order to guarantee the safety of students and teachers, for example, that the classrooms have the best ventilation conditions and the use of face masks in closed spaces.
He reiterated that: “The University Commission for the Attention of the Coronavirus Emergency considers viable the face-to-face returnbecause although we are coming out of an outbreak, it is evident that the lethality of the disease has decreased, which gives hope that we are really entering a new normality.”
The College of Sciences and Humanities (CCH) carried out a protocol for the return to face-to-face classes of the 2023-1 semester, which includes measures such as:
Placement of alcohol-based gel strategically
Use of face masks in all school spaces
Promote adequate ventilation of closed spaces
Complete vaccination schedules against COVID-19
Stay home if you have any symptoms related to the disease
Seek medical and laboratory attention to confirm the diagnosis
On the other hand, Lomelí Vanegas recalled the inauguration of two new degrees: Tourism and Sustainable Development, at the National School of Higher Studies (ENES) León Unit; and Mathematics for Development, at ENES Juriquilla. In addition, new facilities of the National School of Languages, Linguistics and Translation, as well as the National School of Earth Sciences, will be put into operation.
The official explained that the pandemic allowed to see the potential of the long distance education, for which learning, dissemination and dissemination activities of science, culture and art will be maintained in this modality.
