In the possession ceremony of the leader of the Historical Pact as president of Colombia, Roy Barreras, president of the Senate, took the oath of the new ruler.
However, when the time came to impose the presidential sash, Barreras summoned Maria Jose Pizarro for this purpose, since her father was a companion of Gustavo Petro in the ranks of the M-19.
“I now call a daughter of the left, a daughter of history, that history that was interrupted by the murderous bulletsbut thanks to you [Gustavo Petro], today it returns to the channel. Mrs. María José Pizarro,” said Barreras.
These words caused smiles and applause in Petro, who before receiving the band, hugged Pizarro, a woman who wore moved and shedding some tears.
Subsequently, the congresswoman set the ribbon for the new president of Colombia on a platform located in the Plaza de Bolívar in Bogotá, which was given entrance to thousands of followers of the president-elect.
