Today, Sunday, August 7, Gustavo Petro takes office as president of Colombiain a ceremony to be held in the Plaza de Bolívar, in the center of Bogotá.
The ceremony began its transmission from 10:00 a.m. However, the presidential inauguration of Colombia will begin around 2:45 p.m.

Petro reaches the Presidency succeeding Ivan Marquez as president and after obtaining 11,291,986 votes with his vice-presidential formula France Marquez.

For the inauguration acts, some 10,000 uniformed Police officers and another thousand special operations commandos will guard the special guests of the ceremony, among whom are Philip VI, King of SpainY Samantha Powerdirector of USAID and head of the delegation sent by Joe Biden from USA
In addition, there will be some of the presidents of South America, such as Gabriel BoricFrom Chile; William Lassofrom Ecuador; Mario Abdo Benitezfrom Paraguay; louis arce, from Bolivia; Y Alberto Fernandezfrom Argentina.

Gustavo Petro announces Catalina Velasco as Minister of Housing
“A woman expert in habitat and planning. One of her responsibilities will be to lead a true public policy for social housing in Colombia,” said Petro.
Gustavo Petro announces Néstor Osuna as Minister of Justice for his government.
Osuna is a lawyer for the Externado and was a magistrate of the Superior Council of the Judiciary.
The king of Spain arrives
Marta Lucía Ramírez, Foreign Minister of Colombia, received this Sunday morning the King of Spain, Felipe VI, one of the guests at Gustavo Petro’s inauguration.
Felipe VI arrived in Colombia for the possession of Petro.

Presidents arrive for the possession of Petro
The leaders of Ecuador, Guillermo Lasso; Costa Rica, Rodrigo Chavez and Paraguay, Mario Abdo Benítez, arrived in the country this Saturday and Vice President and Foreign Minister Marta Lucia Ramírez was in charge of receiving them.

The president-elect met with Mario Cimoli, Acting Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC).

new appointments
Gustavo Petro announced four more ministries:
– Irene Velez will be the Minister of Minister of Mines
– Gloria Ines Ramirez will be the Minister of Labor
– Maria Isabel Urrutia will be in charge of the Ministry of Sport
– Alphonse Prada will be in charge of the Ministry of the Interior
Thus, only the portfolios of: Justice, Transport, Housing, Science, ICT and Commerce remain to be announced.
