In a climate where work is scarce and social plans are the subject of dispute between various internal branches of the Government and social movements, the traditional act of veneration to San Cayetano brings a level of tension reloaded. From early on, the organizations began to mobilize in the center of Buenos Aires, where a central act is planned around 2:00 p.m., which will take place in the Plaza de Mayo.
Under the slogan “Peace, Bread, Land, Roof and Work”, the call is made by the movements that are related to the national government and is expected to extend from Casa Rosada to 9 de Julio Avenue. from the organization expect to have at least 400 thousand people for the central moment of the act.
In the early hours of the morning, the columns advanced through Rivadavia, after passing through the traditional sanctuary located in the Liniers neighborhood. It was the first time the doors of the temple had been opened in two years, after the outbreak of the pandemic.
“More than ever it is necessary to carry out policies that strengthen the workers who need it most”, highlighted from the Union of Workers of the Popular Economy (UTEP) -which is part of the Evita Movement, Barrios de Pie and the Clasista Current and Combativa, to Juan Grabois’s MTE- in a statement.
The same organizations celebrated Worker’s Day but with specific claims to the Casa Rosada for more spaces and a precise fight against inflation. For now, none of the claims have been satisfied.
In this context, the social organizations that still give credit to the Government will give this Sunday a true show of street power in the midst of an internal debate about the direction of the coalition and after the arrival of Sergio Massa as the new strong man of the Cabinet, a landing that generated expectations, particularly in the Evita, the movement led by Emilio Pérsico and Fernando “Chino” Navarro.
“I believe him,” Pérsico said this Saturday in statements to Radio Con Vos with a certain logic: the Secretary of Social Economy of the Ministry of Social Development, aligned with the Casa Rosada, had been one of the main supporters of Martín Guzmán until the former minister resigned unexpectedly, on Saturday, July 2. The program that Massa proposed as a road map after his assumption deepens that of the former official.
On the contrary, Grabois, a leader with less capacity for mobilization than Evita but more noisy, has insistently threatened to leave the Front of All.
His last warning was after the first measures announced by Massa, last Wednesday: “Although there were lukewarm references to retirees and employees of the private sector, there was not the slightest announcement for the most neglected social sectors,” stressed from the Patria Grande front led by Grabois it’s a statement. And they agreed to “convene the whole of the militancy to re-discuss the membership” of the legislators of the space: “Our government is not defending the popular interests,” they abounded.
For the Government, this Sunday’s march becomes uncomfortable because, despite the juggling to try to soften the claims, the mood in social organizations is heated.
To make matters worse, Massa reinforced the plan that Juan Zabaleta is working on, hurried in part by Cristina Kirchner, of make transparent the plans framed in the Enhance Work program.
In parallel, last Thursday, the Unidad Piquetera bloc made up of the Polo Obrero, Barrios de Pie-Libres del Sur, and the MST Teresa Vive, among other organizations, requested an “urgent” meeting with Massa – they had also asked Silvina Batakis , without success- due to the “food emergency”, “aggravated by the increase in the inflationary process that is destroying the purchasing power of workers with fixed incomes”.
