Santiago de Cuba, Aug 5 (ACN) The purchase of foreign currency by the Cuban government takes place without difficulty in the branches of the Popular Savings Bank (BPA) and the Exchange Houses (Cadeca) of this province, after the implementation of the measure on August 4.

Orta Tejera, head of procedures and communication of the BPA in Santiago de Cuba, informed the Cuban News Agency that six offices were set aside for that purpose in the territory, specifically those located in the José Martí district and Plaza Dolores, in the locality. head, and in the municipalities of Contramaestre, San Luis, Segundo Frente and La Maya.

He pointed out that all Santiago branches are prepared for this process, aimed at recovering the currency circulating in the country, and in those referred customers will receive cash in national currency (Cuban pesos), while in the rest of the demarcations the operations will be carried out of purchase, but only to deposit in savings accounts and magnetic cards.

In this regard, he pointed out that it is an organizational measure due to the availability of cash, which could not be guaranteed for all offices, although it will gradually be guaranteed in all BPA offices in this southeastern province.

He assured that, on the first day, this August 4, the service behaved well, despite the affectations of the electric power in several institutions.

As he specified, there is still no great demand, but the influx of people to bank offices is expected to increase in the coming days, because it is a safe way to sell foreign currencies.

At the same time, he commented that the population has doubts about the process, especially with the changes in the exchange rates, the application of commercial margins and the acceptance of the US dollar again, topics for which informative programs are coordinated in the media. He stated that the operations remain in the usual order and that this Thursday, August 4, the date chosen for the implementation of the measure, 74 were reported throughout the province, due to having sufficient cash.
