the graduate Lersy Boria Vizcarrondowho was in charge of the Office of the Women’s Ombudsman (OPM) since July 2018, resigned this Friday from his position to “take new paths.”
“It is with mixed feelings that, today, I informed the governor, Pedro Pierluisi, of my decision to make the position of Women’s Ombudsman available to him, effective immediately.”Boria Vizcarrondo expressed in a press release.
The lawyer thanked the governor for his trust and recognized the importance of “leading a government office that works on such central and multifactorial issues as equity and gender violence.”
“My career at OPM leaves me with the satisfaction of having been able to contribute to changing the perception of gender-based violence in Puerto Rico and of having positively impacted so many lives,” said Boria Vizcarrondo.
In addition, he shared that he will leave his position at OPM to “embark on new paths, but always with an eye on the fight for our women and vulnerable populations.”
“I am proud to leave the agency on track, with a balanced budget, the legal advocate academy up and running to certify new staff in that sensitive field, and a budget allocation for NGOs that provide services to survivors of violence.”, he acknowledged.
In addition, he indicated that the adjudicative and control area is structured, which has been effective in monitoring compliance with public policy, among other outlined goals.
