The Ministry of the Rural Environment has requested, as a preventive measure, the ‘situation 2’ in the active forest fire that started in the municipality of Boiro, in the parish of Cures.
This emergency operational situation is declared due to the proximity of the flames to the center of Piñeiro, in the aforementioned parish, reports the Galician government it’s a statement.
Also, the proximity of the fire to a campsite in Ribeira has forced the eviction of 700 people late this Friday, emergency sources inform Efe.
The flames have spread to the municipalities of A Pobra do Caramiñal and Ribeira, where they are near the Ría de Arosa campsite, in the center of Oleiros, which has led to their eviction.
This fire started after four in the afternoon this Thursday, and is already around 400 hectares provisionally affected.
The mayor of Boiro, José Ramón Romero, has acknowledged that the situation “has become more complicated” in recent hours in the Piñeiro area, where ‘Situation 2’ has been declared, but also in Montañó. Furthermore, “it has just happened to Sampaio”, in A Pobra, where Romero warns that “yes there is danger” for houses.

However, the Boirense councilor points out that “for the moment” there has been no need to evict neighbors nor has there been damage to infrastructure, although there is “a lot of smoke” in the area.
Mobilized 12 planes and seven helicopters
So far, they have mobilized to control Boiro’s fire three technicians, 25 agents, 40 brigades, 25 motorized pumps, four shovels, a technical support unit, 12 planes and seven helicopters.
The Department of the Rural Environment recalls in the statement that the free telephone number 085 is available to the public, which they should call in case of detecting a forest fire.

In addition, there is an anonymous and free telephone number to report any suspected or known criminal arson activity.
The Xunta has also activated in the last few hours the risk situation for populated areas in the Ponte Caldelas fire (Pontevedra), in the parish of Xustáns, due to the proximity of the flames to Canicouva.

Instead, in the fire of Caldas de Reis (Pontevedra), parish of Saiar, is already deactivated for remitting the risk, after adding 450 hectares burned.
