The renowned Peruvian actor Diego Bertie He passed away at the age of 54. The news was confirmed by Mario Casaretto, commander of the General Corps of Volunteer Firefighters of Peru.
According to reports, the national artist would have fallen from the 14th floor of his building, located in the district of Miraflores, arriving lifeless at the hospital.
“It is unfortunate news, Diego Bertie’s person has been found in his garage with multiple fractures in his legs and back,” Casaretto said. “He has been transferred to the Casimiro Ulloa Hospital where he has arrived as a corpse, unfortunate news. We are waiting for the hospital to give its statement to certify what is apparently a confirmed issue. Yes (he has passed away), it is the confirmation we have”.

Singer, composer and actor, the artistic career of Diego Bertie (November 2, 1967- August 5, 2022) was equaled by few of his contemporaries.
Although Bertie made his first forays into the world of entertainment with his band Images in 1986, it was his acting career that really made him known nationally and internationally, beginning with the soap opera “Rosa de América” in 1988, to later participate in iconic 90s series like “Man Must Die” and “Natasha.”
This relevance on television continued to the present day and in recent years he has also starred in series such as “The successful Gome$” and had a central role in the popular TV series “Back to the neighborhood” as the villain Luis Felipe Sandoval.
His career on the big screen was equally notable, starting with a minor role in the film “Ultra Warrior” (1990) and later taking center stage in films such as Danny Gavidia’s “Reportaje a la muerte” (1993), “No compassion” (1994) by Francisco Lombardi and “The Elusive Good” (2001) by Augusto Tamayo San Román.
Regarding this last role, Tamayo highlighted the acting quality of Diego Bertie by pointing out that “among those of his generation there were not so many actors who could play a role like Jerónimo”
Diego Bertie also stood out on stage very early in his career, beginning with the musical “Annie” in 1987. Since then, he has taken the central role in staging classic works such as “Bodas de sangre”, “La vida es sueño ” and “Oedipus the King”, as well as musicals “The Rebel Novice” (2013) and “Mamma Mía!” (2015).
In recent months, Diego Bertie has sought a reinvention, strongly resuming his musical career with his show “The Good Times”, a show where he brought together the best of music from the 80s and 90s.
“Definitely, I have not ruled out acting again, only now I am giving priority to music because I have to invest a lot of time and work, now my priority is to continue with the presentations, which have brought me so much satisfaction, and release my new album. ”, he said in an interview with Peru21.
In a recent conversation with Nora Sugobono for Somos, Diego Bertie indicated that this new focus on music had helped him “heal himself”: “My house has been opened to music. People come, we play, we rehearse. And art is breathed here. I do not decorate: what I have are sensitive accumulations, ”he indicated. “I get very close to Buddhism because I feel that we have to learn to breathe, to stay on our axis. We are passing through, we are not going to avoid death, but we can transform that energy so that in another life we are something better”.

The unexpected death of Diego Bertie has taken the entertainment world by surprise. One of the first to react was the artist’s manager, Carlos Sánchez de la Puente, who was shocked by the news.
“We are all in shock, because Diego is an angel living among us,” he said. “He’s the noblest guy I’ve ever worked with.”
Sánchez de la Puente also revealed that the actor had presented symptoms of Covid-19 since Monday, which is why he had canceled his shows at La Estación de Barranco this week.
