Professors, employees and university workers marched this Thursday.
The Caroní Teachers College, together with the teachers from the UDO, Uneg and Unexpo, marched this Thursday to the Plaza Monumento a la CVG -in Alta Vista- to claim the violations of collective bargaining; activity that was carried out was replicated in the rest of the country.
Erika Carvajal, director of the College of Teachers of Venezuela in Caroní, indicated that they heeded the national call together with active and retired teaching staff, workers, administrators, the nurses’ union, workers of the supervised companies of the Venezuelan Corporation of Guayana “we demand what by law it corresponds to us”.
They raised their voices in rejection of the instructions of the National Budget Office “since March flattened our salaries, seniority premiums, professionalization canceling our income and the payment we have received established in our collective contracting, vacation bonus for active and recreational to retirees, what is paid is not practically a fortnight”
Apart from the fact that they demand compliance with the acquired rights and that they are in the contract “the result of union struggles that we have had for years, our rights are inalienable. Enough of abuses and respect the teaching profession, without teachers there are no teachers, there is no progress in any nation (…) Teachers are the most important profession for the development and training of other professions, we deserve decent work spaces that today we don’t have, we fight for working conditions where students have a suitable infrastructure”, he sentenced.
For his part, Raúl Brito, president of the Uneg Teachers’ Association (Apuneg), rejected the decision of the national executive in conjunction with the Federation of University Workers of Venezuela (Ftuv) for “treason.”
“They signed an act behind the backs of the workers where it condemns us to collect ten days of prorated vacation bonus, there are 105 days of bonuses, the executive plans to pay ten days in August, another ten in September and October, the rest to pay in 2023”, said Apuneg’s representative.
That is why they reject Onapre and the policies of the National Government, “we are asking them to pay us the full vacation bonus and restore our labor rights, pay social benefits, savings accounts, fair budgets for universities and resources for research centers, inventory”, stated Brito.
