Dear Singapore Airlines, that was nothing. On our Singapore Airlines business class flight from Singapore (SIN) to Bali (DPS), there was a wide gap between a 5-star airline claim and reality. The mistake was probably the Corona friendly service concept. Singapore Airlines can certainly do better than this.
Strange entry for someone who was allowed to spend 2 1/2 hours flying business class with a lie-flat seat, right? Surely someone is crying at a high level. And that’s it: In this report, I’ll tell you what awaited us on a Singapore Airlines “short-haul” flight in business class and why I deliberately chose this introduction for review.

Singapore Airlines Business Class Boeing 787 from Singapore to Bali-Denpasar | Arrival and Check-in
For the return trip from Conrad Centennial Singapore to the airport, we did not use the shuttle from the hotel due to the high price and good flight time. Instead, I once again ordered a minivan from gettransfer.com that was big enough for the whole family with luggage and a stroller.
The journey again took less than 20 minutes before arriving at Changi Airport’s Terminal 3 in the business class check-in area. Again, it’s a lot of fun, because while you’re usually the envy of business class passengers with short queues and standing in the eco line, Changi with Singapore Airlines has a shorter line for first class passengers and You end up among the many people flights have to wait at central business class check-in.
When it was our turn, there was general confusion with the kids about our ticket. The employee had to generate one of two booking codes and then he was able to check us in. Since we had the same situation for the return flight from Denpasar, I asked if it could be fixed here on site as well. I didn’t want to risk meeting a poorly qualified employee of Singapore Airlines in Indonesia. The lady pointed me to the ticket counter, where after a short wait and some clarification, our return ticket was cleared.
Singapore Airlines Business Class Boeing 787 from Singapore to Bali-Denpasar | boarding
The family spent time at the Silvercriss lounge of Singapore Airlines on their way to departure. The authors went on to review the new lounge in part at KrisFlyer Gold Lounge.
And as usual, time flew by so fast that we headed to the gate and there was not much buffer left for boarding. And there the bear was tap-dancing. We queued up at the security checkpoint and then handed over our two strollers (well packed in plastic bags). Of course, that’s exactly when one of the girls finally fell asleep.
After a short friendly request, we were allowed to exit the queue and get the twins on board safely. We were lucky enough to be able to reserve a total of four seats on this flight, giving us the opportunity to expand a bit.
The cabin was relatively empty when we were able to board. Our seats were already covered with pillows and blankets. Infant seat belts and a toy for the children were also waiting there.
There were no drinks before departure on this flight, so we spent time driving until takeoff to keep the kids happy.
Singapore Airlines Business Class Boeing 787 from Singapore to Bali-Denpasar | cabin and seat
The Airbus A350 and Boeing 787-10 are now standard for short-haul flights (ie within Asia) with Singapore Airlines. At the time of our flight, Dreamliners were used regularly between Singapore and Denpasar.
The cabin of the 787-10 has a two-class configuration. You can choose a seat in either economy class or business class. Economy class has 301 standard seats with a 32-inch seat pitch. The best economy class seats are 58A/B/C and 58 H/J/K seats. The seats are in economy and the toilets are right in front of the center block of the 58D/E/G seats. On the other hand, you should avoid the last row of aircraft (73A/B/C, 74D/E/G, 75H/J/K), as you are sitting right next to the toilet and your seats can hardly accommodate is backwards. The situation is similar with the 57A/K and 69A/K seats, which lack windows and, at least in row 57, are close to toilets.
The Singapore Airlines Boeing 787-10 Business Class has 36 seats, all of which fold into a flat bed. I was particularly impressed with the noise-absorbing design of the seat. You hear very little in this seat from the noise in the cabin.
As in a business class, there are hardly any good or bad seats. If you want your peace, it’s best to avoid both the first line (11) and the last line (20) of business class. Business class also has window seats with no windows. The seats in this plane are 16A and 16K.
When choosing a seat, you should make sure that the window seats A and K in rows 12, 15, 17 and 19 are right next to the window. There is still a console between you and the window in rows 11, 14, 16, 18 and 20. You’ll find actual honeymoon seats in rows 11, 14, 16, 18 and 20, while the other double seats in the middle block provide enough distance to the next person due to the center console.
The seats are arranged in a 1-2-1 configuration, therefore a suitable option for both solo travelers and couples. Even two-seater seats in rows 11, 14, 16, 18 and 20 offer just as much privacy thanks to an expandable partition as if you were traveling alone. With these seats it is a great solution.
We chose the 19 and 20K seats, but ended up with the 20F as a backup.
Singapore Airlines Business Class Boeing 787 from Singapore to Bali-Denpasar | Food, Drink & Service
My main draw on the “short-hall” with Singapore Airlines is the extensive drinks menu and book-the-cook offers. And I didn’t notice any of them much on this flight.
Of course I selected and ordered a menu from the book-the-cook menu for this flight before departure. We actually ordered four dishes. One dish for each reserved seat. And it seems that some confusion has arisen. A flight attendant distributed stickers with a BTC menu request on seats before take-off. And she looked questioningly at seat 20F, which was left vacant because we had reserved it. But I hadn’t switched at that time and asked him about it.
When the sound prompts went out after the launch, pre-ordered menus were delivered first and that’s where disaster made its way. Instead of taking my drink request right away, I had a tablet on my table containing a steak with a starter and dessert. With just a glass of water.
And then the regular service started with the serving of food and drink. Well, we were at the back of the cabin. And it went on and on. It took me so long to press the call button but there was no response.
After all the passengers had eaten their food and drink, it was finally my turn. I ruthlessly poked my finger into my icy steak and asked the flight attendant to clean the dish. He apologized professionally and offered a choice from the regular menu. On the kids side, I opted for the chicken dish and ordered myself a glass of Piper Hadsiek Vintage 2012 Champagne, which in turn was not on the trolley and had to be brought in from the galley first.
Aside from clearing my desk and refilling the drinks, that was all the service that was still possible on the 2 hour and eleven minute flight.
Singapore Airlines Business Class Boeing 787 from Singapore to Bali-Denpasar | in-flight entertainment system
Singapore Airlines also provides a full entertainment system on this short hop to Denpasar. Large, tilted screens offer a range of movies and series for young and old alike. It also includes some current blockbusters and has some options in German as well.
In addition, time can be spent with IFE’s games and music. Everything can be controlled via the monitor or in-seat remote control and enjoyed with noise-canceling headphones.
Singapore Airlines Business Class Boeing 787 from Singapore to Bali-Denpasar | frankfurt flyer note
It was definitely not the Singapore Airlines that I fell in love with. But was it because of the crew that no drinks were served and served directly with the meal? I don’t think so. To me, this looks like a sub-optimal service concept.
I also wouldn’t judge negatively the fact that my pressing on the call button in the middle of the service was not answered. The crew was busy distributing food from the wagon.
Well, it’s kind of stupid that no 5-star service was provided here, but you can still spend two hours of flight time on decidedly less comfortable ones. You only need to sit in a business class seat within Europe to understand this. So I was crying on a really high level here.
