Hyundai Motorsport teen Oliver Solberg will compete on the second spherical of the FIA European Rallycross Championship this weekend (2 – 3 July).
Just days after ending tenth at a fraught Safari Rally Kenya, the younger Swede will change disciplines for his residence spherical of the championship.
Solberg will drive a Hedströms Motorsport Hyundai i20 in opposition to the likes of Johan Kristoffersson – who has beforehand steered a Volkswagen Polo in WRC3 – and Andreas Bakkerud in the headline Euro RX1 class.
It’s been a busy week for the 20-year-old. He flew again from Kenya on Monday to check the rallycross automotive on Tuesday and can be finishing up a pre-event check for Rally Estonia immediately (Thursday) with Hyundai’s i20 N Rally1 automotive.
“It’s been a busy time,” stated Solberg. “I’ve at all times beloved rallycross and I received the chance to drive the automotive, so in fact I couldn’t say no to that.
“Hedström Motorsports’ workshop is only 10 minutes away from mine. We have worked together before and we have known them for a long time, and also the car is a Hyundai. So it’s a good opportunity,” he added.
Solberg is not any stranger to the dual-surface self-discipline, though this weekend will mark his first outing in two years. He clinched the 2018 RallyX Nordic crown and his father, Petter, can be a two-time world champion.
“I want to win, of course. It’s very simple,” he defined. “I do know Johan Kristoffersson very properly and I do know the opposite guys very properly.
“We are probably the most competitive guys and now we are competing against each other, so for sure we want to beat each other!”
