Italy backs Finland-Sweden NATO bid says Draghi – English & More News Here

(ANSA) – ROME, MAY 18 – Italy backs Finland and Sweden’s bid
to hitch NATO, Premier Mario Draghi advised a press convention with
Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin Wednesday.
   
“It is an historic moment for Europe and Finland,” he mentioned.
   
“The request to hitch NATO is a transparent response to Russia’s
invasion of Ukraine and the risk it poses to peace in Europe,
for our collective safety.
   
“Italy helps with conviction the choice by Finland, and by
Sweden (to request NATO membership)”.
   
Draghi went on: “Finland and Sweden already cooperate with NATO
and share its founding values.
   
“We agree on making the accession procedures quicker: we should
assist the Countries within the interval of transition.
   
“Since the top of the Second World War we now have been travelling
on the identical path. Finland joined the UN in 1955. Relations are
glorious and in the previous couple of years we now have had a gradual
strengthening of ties. In 1995 Finland joined the European
Union. In the previous couple of weeks we now have proven a terrific unity with
