ANN ARBOR, MI — There are a handful of construction projects in Washtenaw County that could affect travel times, traffic and road closures this week.

West Summit Street: The road between Main Street and Wildt Street/Hiscock Street will be closed beginning at 8 am on Monday, January 16.

Corby Energy Services, on behalf of DTE Energy, is installing new underground conduits and manholes for electrical services. The project is scheduled to finish at 5 pm on Monday, February 6.

Westbound traffic is being diverted south on Main Street, west on Miller Avenue, and north on Spring Street. Eastbound vehicles will be detoured south on Spring Street, east on Miller Avenue, and north on Main Street.

Access to businesses and vehicle entrances will be maintained at all times. As for pedestrian traffic, anyone traveling on the north side of Summit Street will be diverted to the south side of the street.

Fifth Avenue North: The highway from Detroit Street to Catherine Street will have one lane change until June 21, 2024.

Construction of a five-story mixed-use building plans to convert the southbound west lane of North Fifth Avenue between Detroit and Catherine streets into a work zone. This will shift traffic to the east lane to the south.

This lane closure will allow Huron Contracting to work on the development that plans to bring 14 residential condominiums above the ground floor retail space plus indoor/underground parking.

While this construction is taking place, access to local businesses and vehicle driveways will be maintained during the closure. Pedestrians will have to use the east side of North Fifth Avenue.

West Madison Street: The road between South Ashley and South Main streets will see a lane closure and change through February 28, while a new building is being built on the southwest corner of South Main and West Madison streets. The job requires the group to take over the eastbound lane of West Madison Street.

The lane closure is in effect 24 hours a day during the project. Eastbound traffic from West Madison Street will change to the left turn lane at the intersection of South Main Street.
