CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) – A home in the 700 block of Sparrow Road caught fire this afternoon leaving several pets dead, according to the Chesapeake Fire Department.

At 3:00 pm, the fire department received a call from a homeowner about his house burning down.

Firefighters arrived and saw fire coming from the front of the house. After putting out the fire, the firefighters were told that there were pets in the house.

Firefighters said they found several dead pets after entering the home.

Of seven residents, only one person was injured and did not require hospitalization. The residents have made arrangements to stay with the family and do not need Red Cross assistance.

Fire investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire.
