ZANESVILLE, OH – Recovering addicts and first responders are coming together for a good cause.

Drug Free Muskingum will host a five-on-five dodge ball tournament called First Responders VS. Second Chancellors. Teams are made up of first responders and recovering individuals or family members. It’s $50 to register a team, proceeds will go to a non-profit charity chosen by the top two teams.

“We have this to match first responders with people in recovery. We know that they often can’t see these people on the other side of helping them or saving their lives.” Co-founder of Drug Free Muskingum, stated Monica Batteiger.

There will be food trucks available for lunch and prizes for best team name and best team uniform. The resource tables will be available to anyone seeking information on treatment or recovery options.

“What I look forward to the most are the conversations that could happen between first responders and people in recovery. Maybe the last time they saw that person was when they saved their life. They get to say ‘Thank you. Thank you for giving me a second chance,’” Batteiger said.

The tournament will take place on Sunday, January 22 at the Foxfire Gym located at 2805 Pinkerton Ln, in Zanesville. Registration will begin at 12:00 p.m. and games will begin at 1:00 p.m.
