Dimitar Berbatov says Aaron Ramsdale put in a ‘very good’ performance during Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, as he told Premier League Productions (01/15/23 6:45pm).

The former Tottenham striker added that it shows the ‘fun’ side of the game that Mikel Arteta’s men were the better team against their north London rivals, but their goalkeeper was the one to collect the Man of the Match award.

From the get-go, the Premier League leaders showed why they are sitting at the top of the table as they topped their neighbors from back to front.

The first goal was another mistake by Hugo Lloris, with Ramsdale then denying Son Heung-min point-blank at 1-0, before he did the same to Ryan Sessegnon at 2-0 in the second half.

Throughout the match, the England goalkeeper commanded his box and made sure there was chalk and cheese going on between the two goalkeepers on the day.

As Berbatov watched his old team lose another game, he was impressed by what Ramsdale produced that day.

“This was the save of the match (Ramsdale denying Sessegnon),” Berbatov said. “Do I remember that it was the first minute of the second half? If you score that, then you put Arsenal under more pressure.

“But if you look at the Man of the Match, then you say ‘they’ve been destroyed and Spurs played very well.’ The goalkeeper is the Man of the Match’. You look at that and you think ‘okay’.

“At the same time, Arsenal won the game. This is the irony of football sometimes. Your goalkeeper is Man of the Match, that’s the fun side of soccer sometimes.

“At the end of the day, they won it. They deserve to win it. The Spurs had their chances. But the difference sounds hard, the effort of both goalkeepers was the difference. One had a bad day at the office. The other one had a very good day.”

That was Ramsdale’s best performance since he first donned Arsenal colors more than 18 months ago.

There were question marks over his big-money move from Sheffield United during the summer of 2021, but he can rightly say he’s one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League right now.

If you want to win the title then you need your goalie to produce these types of performances throughout the season and Ramsdale have done just that.
