Encourages the public to travel on foot rather than by car

(Hong Kong, January 15, 2023) Organized by the World Green Organization (“WGO”) and proudly presented by Dah Sing Bank (the “Bank”), the Green Walk Hong Kong The campaign, with the slogan “Walk for our climate and a better future”, calls on the community to adopt healthier and low carbon lifestyles to combat climate change, encouraging them to walk more and rely less on motorized transport, especially for short distance trips. . One of the highlights of this year’s campaign was the Green WALK Hong Kong City cum Carnival Orienteering Contest, which was held on January 15, 2023. The festive event was a fitting end to the “Online Challenge Green WALK Carbon Reduction Program, in which participants recorded the number of steps taken using a mobile app, which were then translated into real-world, measurable carbon reductions. Providing additional support to the community, Dah Sing Bank commemorated its landmark anniversary through the “Dah Sing Bank 75the Anniversary Charity Challenge”, donating HKD750,000 to five environmental charities.

In his opening remarks, Dr. William Yu, Executive Director of the WGO, noted: “Everyone must take responsibility for conserving energy and reducing carbon consumption. “Green WALK Hong Kong City Orienteering Competition cum Carnival”

The centerpiece of this year’s campaign, the “City Orienteering Competition”, drew close to 500 participants and featured additional green workshops promoting green lifestyles to advocate for environmental protection. Participants set out from VESSEL 01 in Kwun Tong in teams to venture on foot to various neighborhoods in East Kowloon, and were challenged to discover tourist spots for the highest “carbon reduction” score. The event encouraged participants to walk more, rewarding them with unique city attractions off the beaten path but easily accessible on foot.

“Green WALK Carbon Emissions Reduction Online Challenge”

Members of the public along with various corporations and organizations participated in the Online Challenge by tracking their daily steps and carbon reduction index through WGO’s Green WALK HK app between the period of August 4-31. last year, collectively achieving a carbon equivalent reduction record of more than 60 tonnes* in carbon emissions for Hong Kong.

Each team quickly reached their respective goal of 750,000 cumulative steps in the first week of the campaign, and Dah Sing Bank donated HKD150,000 to each team’s designated charity, for a total donation of HKD750,000 to support the evolution of Hong Kong towards a sustainable future. .
