WILMINGTON — As the community prepares to commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King on Monday with the annual parade, it also means road closures and traffic delays are expected downtown.

The parade is scheduled for January 16 at 11 am, beginning on North Third Street at Brunswick and Hanover streets. It will continue south to Princess Street, then move east on Princess Street to Fourth Street, making a north turn at Fourth Street, before turning west on Red Cross Street to North Third Street, ending in Brunswick .

Various intersections along the parade route will be blocked or closed, beginning at 7 a.m. and until approximately 3:30 p.m. Detours will include:

  • Northbound Third Street through traffic will be diverted to Fifth Avenue/Sixth Street
  • Southbound Third Street through traffic will be diverted to Fourth Street/Fifth Avenue

Northbound Front Street will be open to traffic and Market will remain open to eastbound and westbound traffic.
