Best 4K Blue-ray Adventure Movies to Own

With 4K Blu-ray becoming the new standard for movie releases, here’s a look at the five best 4K adventure movies to add to your collection.

With 4K becoming more affordable, many movie classics are getting their own re-releases on 4K Blu-ray. Sometimes the movie gets a simple upscale, and sometimes the movie goes above and beyond with better color-grading, HDR and better surround sound. So, here are some of the best 4K adventure movies to test your movie setup and experience some classic films looking better than ever.

The Lord of the Rings Has Never Looked Better

Bilbo Baggins from The Lord of the Rings

The Lord of the Rings is a prime example of 4K’s capabilities. Not only have these incredible movies been transferred to 4K, but director Peter Jackson aided in the 4K edition with his opinion on the color grading. The HD Blu-ray edition featured color hues, like yellows and blues, over some scenes to give them a more fantasy look. However, with these 4K Blu-rays, the hue is gone, and Middle-earth looks as realistic as ever.

Bundles of the 4K Blu-ray always come with extended editions, which many fans believe is the only way to watch the movies. Plus it comes with plenty of behind-the-scenes footage that’s just as entertaining as the films themselves.

Harry Potter Looks Magical in 4K

Harry Potter Ministry of Magic

Not only are the Harry Potter movies great to revisit, but they also feel completely fresh to re-watch in 4K. With the movies being filmed over the course of ten years, the camera and digital effects’ quality improve over time. Still, the earliest movies look so detailed that it’s easy to assume they were filmed today. Where the 4K really shines, though, is in the later movies. For example, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 is a dark movie, so the HDR really has a chance to show off by providing satisfyingly deep blacks.

While the later movies are the best looking, the entire Harry Potter series can be purchased as a complete bundle.

Indiana Jones in 4K is A Treasure

Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones

Being one of the more recent 4K releases, Indiana Jones benefits massively from the 4K upgrade. Each movie features plenty of desert sands and forests, which look great with the improved sharpness. And the biggest upgrade is for the 1981 Raiders of the Lost Ark, which no longer looks as soft as the previously released versions.

Although it may not be preferable for all fans, the Indiana Jones 4k bundle also comes with Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Despite mixed opinions on the movie, there’s no denying how good it looks in 4K.

Back to the Future 4K Modernizes the Movies

Doc Brown From Back To The Future Dangling From Clock Tower

While it’s ironic, the Back to the Future movies in 4K looks like they could’ve been filmed in the modern-day. The incredible amount of detail put into these movies is clearer than ever, and the removal of film grain really ups the realism. Also, the audio has a new Dolby Atmos sound mix, meaning the superb soundtrack sounds as good as can be.

The Back to the Future movies can only be purchased together in one bundle, although that’s not surprising given how each film is a direct continuation of the last.

Spider-Man Finally Swings into 4K

Spider-Man-3-Sandman-Disappears

With Spider-Man: No Way Home quickly approaching, now’s as good a time as any to catch up on the early 2000s classics. Along with the increased sharpness, the movies really shine from their new color grade. Most notably, Spider-Man’s suit now has a deeper and darker red and blue appearance, which looks better than the previous bright red color from the Blu-ray. And overall, the new look has a focus on subtle tweaks that make the scenes look more realistic, rather than drastically changing the colors for the sake of it.

Despite opinions on Spider-Man 3, each movie is worth viewing in 4K. Especially since numerous characters are set to return in Spider-Man: No Way Home.
