The fire occurred in the 700 block of Sparrow Road, the Chesapeake Fire Department said.

CHESAPEAKE, Va. — Seven people were displaced and several pets died after a home in the Indian River area of ​​Chesapeake caught fire Monday afternoon, authorities said.

The Chesapeake Fire Department received the call to a fire in the 700 block of Sparrow Road shortly before 3 p.m.

Minutes later, firefighters arrived at the house and confirmed that a fire was coming from the front. With the help of the Virginia Beach Fire Department, Chesapeake firefighters quickly put out the fire.

In the process, firefighters were told there were pets inside and found several dead.

One of the people living in the house was injured but was treated at the scene and did not have to be taken to a hospital. No one else was injured.

The family will not be able to stay in the house due to the damage it sustained. They will stay with relatives and do not need help from the Red Cross.

Investigators are working to find out what caused the fire.
